Our Vision
The Hancock County Cemetery Commission aspires to preserve the Pioneer Cemeteries of Hancock County as a tribute to the early settlers of this area.
Our Mission
The mission of the Hancock County Cemetery Commission is to locate, record, restore and maintain all Pioneer Cemeteries of Hancock County under its jurisdiction. There are currently 93 known cemeteries within Hancock County.
The Cemetery Commission is responsible for cemeteries when the following occurs:
- No funds or sources of funds for reasonable maintenance
- A cemetery has suffered neglect and deterioration
- The cemetery may be the burial grounds for Indiana Pioneer leaders or Veterans of an American war, including the Revolutionary War
- The cemetery must have been established before 1850
Locating, restoring, and maintaining Pioneer Cemeteries requires a financial commitment and County Government cannot afford this burden. The Pioneer Cemetery Commission depends on the generosity of volunteers and donations to attain the goals they have set.
