The Environmental Health Division of the Hancock County Department of Health is responsible for public health and environmental education within the county.
Environmental Health Specialists conduct inspections, issue permits, investigate complaints, educate the public, and enforce applicable regulations. The Environmental Health Specialists review plans for new subdivisions and new home and business construction. They inspect food establishments, public swimming pools, bed and breakfast facilities, tattoo parlors, private drainage tiles, and new septic system installation. Permits for food establishments and septic system installation are also issued. The Department also investigates public health complaints, including but not limited to; housing, trash, solid waste, fish kills, mosquitoes, pollution, disease-causing vectors, food and restaurant compliance, and public swimming pools.
